Hi, Hi! Guess who’s back? Back again..

I’ll make this kind of quick, because I’m watching “American Idol.” I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that, because I think I’ve mentioned before just how much I hate most reality TV. And I stand by that. But the buck stops at Idol audition night. Maybe it’s because I have a bit of a mean streak or just a penchant for Schadenfreude. These people are so deranged and I love it. Every year, I tune in without fail for the snark factor. Sometimes I think I’ll keep watching because I’ve invested in the process and then I never do. But audition night is where it’s at. I’m even kind of excited about the new judges this year. Jennifer Lopez? I have a sort of secret (or now not-so-secret) love for J-Lo. We’re both still Jenny from the block and all.

But I’m excited to be posting again. Putting together Monday’s post, I realized how much I’ve missed my little routine. I’ve been kind of lost without it. I’ve had all this extra time on my hands. I’ve read books! Slept in. It’s so weird! I’m not even sure I like it. So. Once I finally pried the same outfit off of myself I thought I’d put on another. And take some pictures and do the whole bit.

I might still be a little out of practice from my hiatus. I don’t love this whole outfit now that I’m looking at it. But I was excited to put together yet another new outfit with this strange tunic top thing. While on my recent vacation to whereabouts unknown, I might have happened across a  Forever 21 or three. And would you believe it? This is the only thing I bought. I think F21 is one of those stores where you have to kiss a lot of frogs. I usually try on about 80 things and come home with a couple that actually worked. I really like this top but I was a little puzzled as to the styling of it.

In hindsight I think I would have gone even simpler. It’s got a nice shape and hangs nicely. But I was also hankering to wear this fun orangey scarf and thus the combo was born. The good news is that now if I don’t love something, I get to try again without worrying about repeat items. I promise I will bring this one back, soon. But not too soon. Don’t worry. I am liking this already!

I Might Have Just Flown Too Far From the Floor This Time

Welcome to day three of THEME WEEK!

You know, theme week has reignited another love of mine – the music video. I don’t think I could ever get bored of watching music videos and I wish there were a channel that played them all day every day. I would watch that channel. (Insert clichè speech about how they never play the GD videos on the MTV anymore. Bah humbug.)

Still, it’s apropos that they should be a part of this theme week. Because very often, when I’m running to a good tune I’m also composing my own music video adventure in my head. In a music video you can wear whatever you want, without regard to what else is going on. Six-inch heels running across a pit of quicksand to kick the crap out of some villain? You got it. Nothing but a couple of eight carat diamond pasties while belly dancing in an abandoned mine shaft? Why the hell not? It’s no wonder I like music videos so much.

In other cases, a good music video can also clue you in to what the song is really about. Unless of course you are today’s playlist pick:

The Killers are one of my favorite bands of all time. I love everything they’ve ever done and they’re music has the ability to incite a lot of emotions in me. “Spaceman” is a track of pure joy. Every time it comes on, it’s worth kicking up the treadmill a whole mph and just busting out. But what is going on in this video? Beats the hell out of me. It’s a postapocalyptic Mardi Gras. I think.  It’s a baroque vaudeville fiesta on some rickety looking structure that I personally would be afraid to party on because I’m afraid of heights.

When dressing I tried to think about what I would wear to such an epic event. The answer was more along the lines of a yellow sequined wedding gown and an elephant mask. Unfortunately, here at the Closet365 project we have not the budget nor the production schedule of a music video. And there was also that whole issue of me having to wear it to work.

Sorry the pictures came out kind of dark. But space is dark. So we’ll just have to deal, I guess.

Anyway. I combined what elements I had on hand to make an outfit that was both spaceman and Killers inspired. I thought dark colors, and shimmery elements were the norm for intergalactic travel. And being the shameless Brandon Flowers fan that I am, I also know that eyeliner and feathers are très important. So I added them for good measure.

I dig the fact that I came out looking sort of like a futuristic flapper. It may not be a sequined yellow wedding gown and elephant mask but I’m hoping that backwards-walking caveman in drag will still save me a dance.

A Heavy Baseline is My Kind of Silence

Well, it’s Friday night. And the moon is right. Gonna have some fun, show you how it’s done… Oh I miss TGIF. I remember watching “Full House” every Friday. Eating some Pizza Hut pizza. Maybe a Pepsi, if the party were to really get going.

Did anyone else feel like this was a long week? Although I went to the doctor on Sunday, I still spent the bulk of this week recovering from Das Uber Respiratory Infection. My lingering death rattle of a cough has actually taken on a new form of annoyance – I now have what feels like a pulled muscle on my left side. Fun times. If by fun times, you mean massively uncomfortable. I generally hate taking pills other than vitamins and the occasional ibuprofen, but last night I broke down and took a vicodin that we happened to have. I thought it might help with the pain or at least make me acerbically witty like my TV boyfriend, Dr. House. It didn’t really do much of anything, but I did wake up this morning feeling much better.

I felt better enough to go for a run, which I haven’t done enough of since being sick. I’ve been very careful to take it easy, despite how much I hate it.  My 10k race is a mere 18 days away and I was freaking out a little about the training setback. No matter though. I think I still have plenty of time to hit my very best stride and I am still very excited. The mend – I be on it.

I’m having a bit of casual Friday outfitwise. I really wanted to wear something new from thrifting yesterday, but truth is that everything is still in bags in my car. I was pretty beat from all the shopping. And I have plans for a massive closet organization on Sunday. I keep the Closet365 closet pretty neat in spite of alllll the stuff that is in there. However, with the project halfway point fast approaching, I want to take stock and do a little sorting. Maybe even pack away some winter clothes. One can dream, right? And if it snows in July,well then… I’ll just be S.O.L.

I really like this vest. I don’t think vests are oh-so in right now, but I felt like taking this dressy-ish piece and dressing it down. I’m not sure what you call this look – Sassy Conductor, maybe? Professor Skinny Jeans? – but I like it for a quiet Friday. It was finals week, so the mall has been practically deserted. The transition of school being let out is a strange time. I’ve got employees coming and going. People moving in and out of our building. It’s changing of the guards, and there’s a hint of summer about. But in light of the lingering crispness today, I’m enjoying my cardigan and my skinny jeans once more.
