Hello! Welcome to Tuesday! Can I just say how much fun I am having reading all of you guys comments and getting to know everyone. I will probably be saying that all week, but it’s true! I love it.
It’s get to know the readers week and I have more questions for you! Today I thought we’d talk about music, since music is also an integral part of this blog. I am a huge music nut with somewhat eclectic tastes, so I love talking about music. Let’s see. Today I want to know: What is your all-time favorite band/artist? What is the most embarrassing thing you have in your music collection? Favorite recent musical discovery? What is the first concert you ever went to?
Well, I’ve made it to day three of my theme week challenge. If you just tuned ine, you’re looking at the third of seven looks I’m creating using only this dress as the base each day. Everything else is different. The point is to create as many unique looks as possible. So far the dress has been monochromatic, and has been converted into a top. Today, perhaps predictably, I went the opposite direction and turned it into a skirt.
This look is quite preppy, which you’ve probably noticed already, I’m fond of. It turned out frumpier than I envisioned, but that tends to happen when you’re wearing three layers of clothing. Otherwise, I was pleased. The blues and reds we’re just bright enough to make it a fun look, while still a conservative change from the last two.
No compliments today. But on the upside, no one has said anything about the repeat dress. In truth, I think the only person I saw today, as well as yesterday was my FedEx guy. He probably didn’t notice because we have a tumultuous relationship as it is. When I say tumultuous, I mean that he likes to complain about every aspect of his job, including how heavy our boxes are. I kind of think that people who work for FedEx, should either not complain about heavy-lifting or find a new job. As a result, we have a lot of tense interactions in which I bestow him with no sympathy and he doesn’t like me very much. Oh well.

First comment dance! I like the preppy look. I’m a wee bit of a prep myself. It’s hard to escape if you grew up in NoCo.
To answer your questions, my all time favorite band?! How can a person pick just one? A few on my rotation right now are Addison Road, Lady Antebellum, Mandy Harvey, Michael Jackson, Chuck Wicks, Michael W Smith, and old school Savage Garden, No Doubt, Switchfoot, TFK, and Skillet. I am often embarrassed by my popster phase, I have *NSync, Britney Spears, and Backstreet Boys. Oh the horror. My favorite recent discovery is that I adore jazz music. Especially stuff sung by my friend Mandy Harvey. As for my first concert, it might have been when Rebecca St. James played at Acquire the Fire when I was in high school. I never really went to concerts.

Cool, cool. (I sometimes forget that I can respond to comments, but all the music talk gets me excited)
Do you have any favorites by “Addison Road”? One of their songs showed up on our CD at work and I quite liked it but I’ve never gotten around to looking up more.
And there is no shame in pop music. I’m pretty sure it makes the world go around.
Jenn said:
well, for Addison Road, I always want to hear ‘What Do I Know of Holy” and “All That Matters”
“But this shallow world is no longer what I’m made of …”
go here to hear more.
and it is true that pop makes the world go ’round, especially when you need a peppy, upbeat song to dance or run to. 🙂 It’s good stuff, it’s just sometimes the stuff that was super popular back when we were in high school embarrasses me a bit.
closet365project said:
Nice. “All That Matters” is the one song I know. I dig it.

I love how many looks you’re accomplishing with this one dress. It sort of places me into a state of awe. All hail Jenny, for her skills are mighty and vast!
I don’t know if you know this about me, but I love music. Pretty much all kinds (except Country, Polka, and super brassy Jazz). My all time favorite band is probably Depeche Mode, though that’s more out of nostalgia than anything current. I’ve actually seen them twice, though my first concert was Robert Plant at Red Rocks. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of dance music and classical. Odd combo, I know, but it all has to do with the weather. And most embarrassing? That I own: Ace of Base (hey, it was the 80s). That I still listen to: terrible 70s/80s arena rock. The guy once refused to get into my car because I was listening to Boston. Harsh. Very harsh. But understandable. 😉
closet365project said:
I did know that you love music. I think we share some similar tastes. (Little Boots is my new favorite thing ever). And I see nothing wrong with some Ace of Base. We spent a whole day on the boat last summer with Pandora plugged into the AOB channel. Good times.
I know nothing of Boston, but I hope you give the guy the same treatment if he ever tries to rock Beach Boys en route. I still don’t get it. At all.

Wow, I’m kind of like Jenn, I really just can’t pick one… I like anything from Jason Mraz and Bright Eyes to the Flobots (which I’ve seen you use as your title before!) I really like the classics too: Queen, Michael Jackson, etc. Recently I’ve been listening a lot to some Owl City, the Avett Brothers (A-mazing!), Keane, Spill Canvas, OneRepublic, Cage the Elephant, Tickle Me Pink, Death Cab For Cutie, and Rilo Kiley…just to name a few 🙂
The Avett Brothers are the ones that I’ve really just discovered, definitely on the calmer side of things.
My most embarrassing part of my music collection? It would probably be a three-way tie between the Spice Girls, Aqua (Barbie Girl) and bad movie soundtracks like Grease 2!
Besides a couple of country concerts I went to with my family, my first real one was Less Than Jake. I wasn’t really impressed with the music that much, but it was more about having a good time with friends!
closet365project said:
Ooh. You have good taste. I like pretty much everyone you mentioned. That or we have Colorado taste. Haha! You left out The Fray and 3OH3!
Spice Girls is also in my embarrassing file, but I maintain it’s good workout music!

First gig was Ministry, new musical discovery I’m liking Big Pink at mo. I just love music all kinds really, I don’t think a day goes by with me listening to music.
Lovin the blog.

I’m a music nut (actually, i have a tshirt that says that!) so i heart music questions!
What is your all-time favorite band/artist?
2 Skinnee J’s
also OAR and Ani Difranco. and hair metal.
What is the most embarrassing thing you have in your music collection?
well, im not embarassed, but i do have an Aqua cd and i just recently picked up the soundtrack to the old 2ge+her movie at goodwill (“i know my calculus, it says you + me = us”). and i have some show tunes.
Favorite recent musical discovery?
hrm. kings of leon? lady gaga?
What is the first concert you ever went to?
bon jovi.
closet365project said:
Show tunes! Nothing wrong with that. It’s culture! ahaha.
Jenni said:
hahaha, i love your tense interaction with the fedex man. That made me laugh. I like this outfit too. I look forward to where you go from here with the dress.
Music… ha. I have weird music collection.
All time favorite: This is hard. I’m gonna go with Ani Difranco… longevity wise I’ve probably been consistently listening to her the longest. But i have a hard time really having a favorite because i get tired of one thing and move on to another and then come back around.
Most embarrassing: The Starstruck Soundtrack (its a disney movie with sterling knight, if you haven’t heard of the movie… ) yes. embarrassing.
Favorite Recent Discovery: not sure… but its probably some new country singer.
First Concert: Now this is a good one. I was in 8th grade and I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighter. My friends and I ended up fashioning bracelets (aka floor tickets) out piece of other people’s bracelets and fooling the security at the entrance to the floor area and getting out into the crowd. Not a minute later my dad came flying out onto the floor and corralled us back to our actual seats… in the nosebleeds. But for that short minute we were the most badass 8th graders ever!
closet365project said:
Ooh! The Foos are awesome in concert. That’s one I’ve actually seen!
I need to listen to more Ani, I only have a few songs. But I love them.

Cute look! I like the preppy look!
My favorite musician of all time is Van Morrison. I’ve never really chosen a favorite before now, but I can listen to his music all day and night and not get tired of it. Most embarrassing part of my music collection is probably Aqua, haha. Favorite recent musical discoveries are Passion Pit and Black Kids. First concert was Hoobastank, Unwritten Law and Sum41. I actually met the guys from Hoobastank, got hugs and free CDs because they weren’t popular. We also met a couple of the members of Sum41 and got autographs.

Hoobastank! I confess, most of their stuff is a little hard for me, but “The Reason” was one of the husband and I’s wedding songs. Love it.

cute look- you are nailing this project!
fave band of all time- Better Than Ezra (local guys!)
Most embarassing- Neil Diamond’s Greatest hits (my mom listened to him constantly when I was in the womb AND as I was a kid, so I love his music now)
First concert: Beastie Boys & Run DMC combo tour in 1987. I think it was the License to Ill tour… I was 10 or 11, I can’t remember- and two guys in front of us were smoking pot and I asked my older sister- “what kind of funny cigarette is that?” LOL
*I must add that my mom let me go to this concert ONLY because I was infatuated with Mike D from the beastie boys in my tween years and my sister offered to take me so I would stop whining about it. LOL
closet365project said:
Hee. Neil Diamond is actually pretty badass.
Emily said:
I’m loving this week’s theme. 🙂 You look great, as usual.
I, like most of us commenters, have a really hard time choosing just one favorite band. For a long time it was Dave Matthews Band which could also be my most embarrassing music love. I really enjoy the diversity of his older music. Not such a fan of the newer stuff. I think Pearl Jam is pretty high up on the list as well. So good. I think my favorite recent music discovery is Bon Iver. He’s pretty awesome. I’m also really into One Eskimo these days. My very first concert was a Goo Goo Dolls show attended by me and my best friend and her mom. We literally ate sugar packets beforehand to get “hyped up.” Blech.
closet365project said:
I love that story. I remember those days too.
Bon Iver is a great discovery. I only know a couple songs but I need to get more.
Kelly said:
I love this! The blue and red look great together. Whenever I wear blue and red I’m afraid of looking patriotic but you don’t look like you are screaming “USA!” at all which is what I strive for with that color combo 😉
Favorite: The Avett Brothers. Or Meat Loaf. Or Stevie Wonder.
Embarassing: I have things other people think I SHOULD be embarrassed about that I’m not, but one I will go out of my way to hide from you is OMC.
Discovery: The Everly Brothers. They are old, like from the 40s I think. But they have a song about Kentucky that I just love.
Concert: Blink 182 hahaha
closet365project said:
OMC!! I love it! My little brother and I used to love “How Bizarre” so so much. Years ago he found a copy of the CD at a thrift store and bought it for me. Although I confess I never got around to listening to it. Any good?
Kelly said:
To be honest I haven’t listened to it in years (imagine that!) but I remember liking a couple of the songs on the CD. Most of the rest of them just sounded the same to me and kind of blended together in my hea
Julie said:
I love what you did today. The red and blue look great together.
Ok, my all-time favorite band, like the others is a hard one to choose. My high school days were in the 80’s and I loved rock, but I had much older siblings that introduced me to many types of music, so I’m gonna pick ABBA for my all time fave! I do love me some ACDC, though, sorry. Also I’m a huge fan of most techno.
My embarrassment right now would probably be GLEE. I know how lame, but I love the show and love the soundracks.
My favorite new band would be The Ting Tings.
To answer your question to a previous comment, my favorite Addison Avenue song is Hope Now.
closet365project said:
Glee is wonderful! I just finally saw the Madonna episode and loved it. I also love the Ting Tings and techno. Yay!
MOM said:
I love the red and blue combo. I always have.
Favorite bands: Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Aerosmith are some of my old time favorites.
Most embarrassing music collection item: Moulin Rouge Soundtrack-I think I borrowed that from someone and never returned it. I actually still like it.
Favorite recent musical discovery: Ke$ha-Your Love is My Drug, LaRoux-Bulletproof Lady Antebellum, Selena Gomez, Sophie Ellis-Baxtor, Little Boots-Remedy
First Concert: Chicago at the Des Moines State Fair
closet365project said:
There is nothing wrong with the Moulin Rogue soundtrack. I still have a couple of the songs on my i-Pod. I am also in awe that my mom knows Little Boots. If you don’t have more of her stuff, remind me to burn you a copy.
Jessie said:
What is your all-time favorite band/artist?
Incubus… old stuff (’93) to new stuff (last year) all of it!
What is the most embarrassing thing you have in your music collection?
hmm… hanson, nsync, backstreet boys… that whole gang
Favorite recent musical discovery?
a local band near me called These Green Eyes. I love them, and they put on a really good show. They have a myspace, in case u want to check them out.
What is the first concert you ever went to?
N’Sync… 2 or 3 of them
closet365project said:
Incubus is awesome. Enough said.
hotpants™ said:
Well, you already know about my love for Britney Spears. I guess it’s not embarrassing since I will admit it to anyone. My favorite artists are Elvis, Kid Rock and Lady Gaga. My favorite new band at the moment is The Script.
Lauren said:
Sad: I almost skipped right over the pics to answer the questions.
All-time fave: I was a huge Guster fan for a long time, but seriously, my go-to album is Third Eye Blind’s “Out of the Vein”.
Most embarrassing: Four-way tie! Ace of Base, Real McCoy, Ultimate Dance Party 1997 AND 1998.
New discoveries: I’ve made a ton, which include: BrakesBrakesBrakes, Neon Trees, and the Beautiful Small Machine’s song “Robots in Love.”
First concert: John Denver, with my mom, when I was 7. The first concert I went to with my friends was Dave Matthews Band, my senior year of high school.
closet365project said:
Ultimate Dance Party…nice. Although I did have the urge for some Jock Jams the other day. 90s dance was the best.
Alya said:
As is probably already obvious, I LOVE Jay-Z. Everything. All of it. 96 to now.
And most embarrassingly I went out and bought Justin Bieber’s CDs the day they were released AND have concert tickets…yikes.
closet365project said:
Whee! Jay-Z is also my favorite. I love all rap, but he’s the king.
And Bieber fever. There’s one I don’t get, but probably because they keep putting him on our CDs and work and I’m convinced that he’s 12.
Kathleen said:
Hmmmm…. my favorite, my most embarrassing, and my first concert: Michael Jackson. I love him so much that I have an embarrassingly large playlist on my ipod. I saw him from far, far, away when I was really little at a concert. We didn’t have tickets which is why we were so far, far away.
More recently, I am in love with the Avett Brothers and I didn’t know much about Pandora until a couple weeks ago. I am so stoked to finally know what this app is all about!! It’s awesome.
Jamie Sanford said:
My all-time favorite band/artist is Nine Inch Nails. It’s pretty funny given that my music taste ranges from serious pop (nothing wrong with bopping along to some Spice Girls, everyone) to the much darker and louder Nine Inch Nails. People seem surprised by it a lot.
Embarrassing? NOTHING. I gave up on that a long time ago. I love both the Marilyn Manson songs and Millennium Dance Party. Seriously, my iTunes is amazingly random.
New discovery? Cruel Black Dove.
First concert was either NKOTB or Belinda Carlisle, I don’t remember which.
