Hi, hi. Well, as promised, I had a very lazy day. Aside from the nap that never came to pass, I was quite inefficient today. I went to the gym and to yoga. I wandered aimlessly around grocery stores. I ate pizza and ice cream, when it wasn’t even a junk food day. I watched 3/4 of an episode of “Mad Men” and I went to the movies.
I went and saw “Eat Pray Love.” I was iffy about it because I read the book years ago when it first came out and loved it. But I didn’t know how it would translate to film and I was even more hesitant that they picked Julia Roberts as the lead. Not a fan. But, I’m not one of those hardcore the-movie-can-never-be-as-good-as-the-book snobs. I can almost never resist a film adaptation, of a book I’ve read. Even, if I know it won’t be as good. Case in point – I sat through “Confessions of a Shopaholic” even though I hated the book itself. That’s actually an example of a successful film adaptation, if you ask me. Because the movie sucked as bad as the book.
Another thing that makes me an odd duck, is that I love going to movies by myself. I know a lot of people who refuse to do this on the grounds that it’s “weird” or “awkward.” What? Why? If you’re one of those people who would never go to a move alone, I urge, no I DARE you to try it. Solo movie showings are seriously the best.I really don’t do enough of this considering I live like, a stone’s throw, from the movie theatre. But I need to remedy that. Anyway. I did actually really enjoy the movie. It reminded me about a lot of things that I took from the book, but had forgotten. And also shed some light accordingly, to all the time that’s passed in the interim. All in all, not a bad way to spend an evening.
So here is an epiphany from my day (pre-movie, I should specify) or rather a confession: I am totally sick of summer clothes. Like seriously. I’ve been growing increasingly sick of them for a couple of weeks now but didn’t realize it. I thought my lack of inspiration was project burnout or just other circumstances plaguing me. But today it hit me. I’m just really Goddamn sick of my warm weather duds. Maybe I just lack creativity, but I feel like there’s really only so much you can do when it’s hot out. Only so many things you can add to make a sundress interesting. Only so many ways you can slice shorts and a top. Short of hopping on the romper bandwagon (doing worry, we are not going there) I’m uh…kinda out of ideas.
All due respect. There is something to be said for breeziness and brights, but after awhile, it starts to get boring. I need more options. I need layers, and texture to capture my attention. I need rich colors and prints to hold my gaze. I need… PANTS. Pants for cripes sake. So, granted we got a few more weeks to get through but I am now anxiously awaiting fall more that ever. What about you guys? Am I the only one over summer clothes?
So for today, (all 90 degrees of it) I just had to roll with the punches. I was feeling punchy enough to attempt this micro/macro print thing that I’ve been kicking around for awhile. When I saw the two similar prints, I knew I had to try it. Too much of a good thing? Too busy? I’m not sure. But I like it for now. It keeps things interesting, anyway.
