What’s goin’ on guys? I’m really sorry, but this will be short. Work is kicking my ass, and I have to turn around and open the store at 8:30 tomorrow morning. The six-day work week – I am not a fan.
But today I bring you day six of THEME WEEK! I’ve you’re catching up, all week I’ve been using characters from “The Nutcracker” as inspiration for my daily outfits. I thought this would be a fun way to get in the spirit. Today I listened to my old “Nutcracker” soundtrack all day in my car and it was SUCH a nice change of pace from all the cheesy, annoying, bells and whistles, tooney Christmas music I’m hearing elsewhere. Heart classical music! Let’s all take a moment and listen to some. It might even take the edge off.
So anyway. I’ve been putting this one off. And you’ll see why in a minute. But in the interest of playing the game. Who could our inspiration be for today? No really? Who could it be?
Oh. Em. Gee! It’s the Supar Plum Fairy. PC Folks can pretend like Clara and the Nutcracker Prince are the main characters, but everybody knows that SPF is the real gem of the show. It’s the role that traditionally goes to the principle dancer of the company. The biggest frilliest part. And. AND. She gets the prettiest costume. Total diva role. The epitome of girliness and a vision in pink splendor. Well okay then. Here goes nothing…
Whoa dudes. Did you guys just get a little bit nauseated looking at these? I kinda did. I’m not gonna lie. Like, I’m a femmey chick and all, and… I feel ridiculous in this! Part of it is just that I didn’t have the right elements – wrong tights, wrong shoes, etc. I haven’t even had time to do my Christmas shopping (save for a few insomniac nights cruising Amazon with a credit card) let alone set forth in search of the perfect tights, as I might have otherwise. So there’s that. And part of problem? Is that it’s just so hella pink!
I do feel like there is an element of prettiness to this that I really appreciate. When I was 10 I would have been all about this outfit. But that’s precisely the problem. I am 27 GD years old and I feel like I stepped off a Candyland game board. (Wrong theme week again!) Still, were the colors more subdued, I would probably dig it. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I did end up removing the belt once I got to work, and I think the simplicity was actually better.
As far as the challenge goes, I’m okay with this creation. It has all the pink and sparkly, just short of a tiara. So. While, I don’t take myself so seriously – that I couldn’t be the Sugar Plum Fairy for one day – I think it’s safe to say that subsequent revivals of this look are a no-go.
Check you guys tomorrow. It’s bedtime for me, and there is one day left for this theme week. Three guesses what character is left. And the first two don’t count.
